OKLAHOMA SKY DOMES
The problem every astronomer faces. Where is the best place to set up a telescope, That question is not so easy to answer. The best place to set up a scope is where you will use it the most. The best place I have ever seen in Oklahoma is in the panhandle but from my house this spot is a six hour drive one way. Now if you are going out for one night it would be crazy to spend 12hours on the road for 6 to 7 hours of observing. But if you are going for two or more nights the drive would be more worth while. Now lets say you live on the north side of Tulsa and you are wanting to view a comet that is in the northern part of the sky you maybe able to use the scope at your house but if the comet you wanted to view was a southern object now from your yard you are looking through Tulsa sky glow. It's time to pack you bags and find a dark site with great southern skies. Check out the map below it will help you in your quest of Oklahoma dark skies
