NGC7000 - The North American Nebula - in Cygnus

NGC7000 is an emission nebula shaped like the continent of North America. On the right is  the Pelican Nebula IC5067 & IC5070 . The brighter red at the north end of the pelican is IC5070. These three are all part of the same interstellar cloud of ionized hydrogen (H II region). Interstellar dust blocks the gas and stars behind the dust creating the darker areas, causing the shapes we see..

NGC6888 - The Crescent Nebula - in Cygnus

NGC6888 is an emission nebula that is formed from stellar wind from the Wolf-Rayet star at it's center WR136. The current fast moving stellar wind is impacting slower moving stellar wind/material ejected from when the star was in a past red giant phase, creating shockwaves. The faint red nebulosity at the lower left is part of LBN208. The lower right as some faint red nebulosity that is part of IC1318.
